Ask a growing RIA what’s holding back operations, and they’ll blame a system: the CRM isn’t good enough, the portfolio software needs an upgrade. But the real constraint usually isn’t any single system. It’s the gap between them.
Data that lives in a document vault doesn’t automatically appear in a CRM. A fee schedule in a client agreement doesn’t sync to a billing system. An account update in one platform doesn’t propagate to the others. At each gap, a person fills in manually — opening one system, reading it, and typing into another.
The individual gaps are small. A few minutes here, a data entry task there. Across hundreds of clients and dozens of processes, they accumulate into the equivalent of a full operations role doing nothing but moving information between systems that should already be connected.
Upgrading any single system doesn’t close these gaps. The system still can’t read a PDF and write to a CRM. It still can’t check a document vault for a missing form and flag the advisor automatically. The work of connecting them — with identity-aware integrations, error handling, and audit trails — has to happen at the layer between systems, not inside any one of them.
