We were scoping a compliance review workflow with a transitions specialist who manages acquired firm onboarding. She already had a clear sense of what she needed and, just as importantly, what she did not want. When I walked through how the staging and inventory step would work, her first response was: “The digestion part and cherry picking is easily the most top priority for my process.”

Not the Salesforce filing. Not the renamed folder structure. The inventory.

She wanted to know what she had and what she was missing, household by household, before anything else moved. The downstream steps matter, but none of them can run until that question is answered.

I find this comes up constantly in ops workflows that touch document-heavy processes: the bottleneck is not the action step, it is the orientation step that has to precede it. You cannot file what you have not found. You cannot close a compliance gap you have not measured. The action steps get all the attention in a product demo, but the thing that actually unlocks capacity is answering the inventory question faster.

The transitions specialist already knew this from experience. She just needed the tooling to catch up.
