One of the things I hear from operators at forward-looking RIA firms that doesn’t get said out loud enough:

“AI is a huge disruptor. You’re either going to get on the AI train or you’re going to be left behind by it.”

That came from a conversation with an advisor who has been through the T3 conference circuit, evaluated 20+ vendors, and is actively doing business process re-engineering before he even considers bringing in new tooling.

That last part is what stuck with me. He is not rushing. He is sequencing. Clean up the process first, then layer in the technology. And he is being honest about a pattern he has noticed in himself: “One of the things I’ve been guilty of in the past is reaching for too many shiny objects at the same time.”

I think the best operators in wealth management right now sound exactly like this. They are genuinely excited about AI. They are also disciplined enough to know that change management has a real capacity constraint, and that you cannot introduce five changes to your staff simultaneously while still serving your clients.

The firms that pull ahead are not going to be the ones who move fastest. They are going to be the ones who sequence correctly.
